Participants

The Logistics and Supply Chain Sector represents the highest proportion (14.5% ) of the Australian National GDP. As an industry, Logistics represents a higher percentage of GDP than Resources and Agriculture combined. This is a significant number, given the impact that any innovation in this domain can have on the Australian economy. The Alliance for Supply Chain innovation (ASCI) will play a strategic role in the development of Logistics and Supply Chain Management by conducting high quality industry relevant research that contributes to sustainable economic development.
ASCI will allow universities and other research institutions to become part of a structure (Participants of the Network) which could facilitate, coordinate, and support the development of knowledge. Such alliance could effectively enhance Collaborative User-driven Research in Supply Chain Innovation as it meets the needs of its Stakeholders in Government, Industry, and Academia to the benefit of its respective Constituents and the Australian Economy.

Participating Institutions

Research and Academic Institutions are research providers with research expertise in the Supply Chain, which participate in the research which the Alliance undertakes and address the relevant research questions and industry problems. The services of these institutions are necessary for a focussed response to the industry’s research needs. As a group, there is Board representation reserved for these Participants. Further, each research/academic participant institution has representation on the ASCI Research Steering Committee.

These organisations are expected to provide the main link between the Alliance and the particular institution or organisation and it is expected that this will be the preferred means of transferring knowledge to industry.

Research Collaboration

ASCI draws a large number of research participants together. The number of participants and their scale of commitment match the scale and complexity of the research and delivery challenge. Meeting this challenge requires a high degree of collaboration and coordination, an important component of the role of the Alliance. The Alliance will undertake planned integrated and focused research and delivery by drawing on the pool of expertise and infrastructure amongst the Alliance participants into multi-disciplinary and multi-organisational project teams.
